About Topcat
I love writing. I was that girl in class with the super-neat handwriting, whose notebooks were always spotless and probably had a flowery Cath Kidson-style jacket on to keep it pristine.
I may have had one corner dedicated to Duran Duran, but other than that I was passionate about my work.
I loved essays and devoured those English literature assignments with glee. That bit that most people hated or dreaded or paid someone else to do, I loved. Go figure!
Then in my 20s I went into newspapers and never looked back. It was like a calling and I loved it.
I know what makes a story. I know what words work. I know how to tinker with other people’s words to make them work.
I am married to Steve, am a mother of two, a movie buff, I love to read and have rediscovered walking.
I am adept at holding a telephone conversation with a small child hanging off my leg (and understand you may have to do that sometimes too) and I understand that being a parent is the most frustrating yet rewarding job there is.
So if you are someone who has made that leap off the corporate ladder to realise your dream and start a business of your own – we should talk.
Now the official bit
I have worked in the media industry for more than 20 years and I have been a journalist, a page designer, a blogger and a features editor. Most recently I worked for Trinity Mirror Newspapers.
I primarily worked in the West Midlands, on regional daily papers where I discovered my love of features and blogging. I worked alongside everyone from councils, schools and hospitals to start up business and major brands all with one purpose – to get them noticed and to get them more media coverage, both off and online.
I launched TopCat Media to continue to do that. To offer great writing, friendly service and down to earth consulting.
There are so many brilliant small businesses out there who aren’t getting the attention they deserve because they just don’t know how to sell themselves.
I want to help change that – especially if you’re looking to understand the complexities of the new digital space.
The team also consists of a photographer and a graphic designer, so you can be assured of a complete service.
And if we can’t help with your request, we can point you in the direction of another friendly person who can!
TopCat is not a large company with designer interiors to maintain and expensive brochures to sell our wares.
You get a friendly, open and jargon-free service from a team keen to get your business noticed.
